Inquisitive Robin (kakaruwai/South Island Robin) Limited edition fine art print.
A4 Size $140.00 A3 Size $220
Robins are a friendly bird, showing little fear of humans, which makes them a favourite for trampers and bird lovers. As they mainly forage on the ground for invertebrates, they’ll often come close to people, who may disturb insects in leaf litter. Males - especially bachelors - are great singers, and cheerfully sing for a few minutes at a time to woo the ladies. There are three variants - the toutouwai (North Island robin), kakaruwai (South Island robin) and the karure (critically-endangered black robin from the Chatham islands). This robin was photographed at Piano Flat, which is nestled in the Waikaia Forest in Southland - a mature beech forest with beautiful mossy undergrowth, where you often see robins, tomtits and fantails.
