My name is Nicola and I am an artist based in the picturesque Pohangina Valley, nestled in the foothills of the Ruahine Ranges. With 20 years of experience, I have dedicated my artistic journey to various forms of creative expression while juggling the responsibilities of motherhood and other business ventures. In recent times, I have made the conscious decision to nurture my creative life and set my goal as growing my art practice into a full-time, sustainable business.

Working primarily with acrylic paint on board, I also incorporate unique elements such as vintage frames, copper, pearls, and locally sourced native timber. I am very partial to a resin finish. These materials serve to add a depth and uniqueness to my artwork and seek to establish a connection with my natural surroundings.

My artistic process revolves around infusing symbolism and metaphor, particularly through the portrayal of animals, into my work. By drawing inspiration directly from my environment and spirituality, I seek to create meaningful narratives within my artwork. Rather than forcing my creativity, I am open and ready to receive. I wait for stories to unfold and serendipitous moments to occur, then I tell those stories via my brush.
