The flamboyant Tui flying through a storm over Motuhoa Island.

Following travel to Florence, Alistair was inspired by the colour and grandeur of paintings by Italian Renaissance artists and their depiction of angels, seeing them as companion spirits to birds.  Each having the lightness of being and both ancient.  

On his return he imagined the Fringe of Heaven to be a mythological place, a boundary filled with our native birds flying with Renaissance angels.

Alistair’s atmospheric bird paintings capture a moment in time.
